At national level, as well as in Bhola, in the southern coastal part of Bangladesh, there is currently no systematic and efficient accountability mechanism for holding the Government of Bangladesh accountable for progressing towards achieving Sustainable Development Goal 6, and the human rights to water and sanitation. However, various platforms have been created for civil society organisations to raise concerns regarding the government’s accountability, and at local level, the opportunity for engagement exists in current local government processes. This document uses the Bhola context to demonstrate the existing opportunities for accountability in Bangladesh.
