This is a story of transformation in Kijura Town Council, Uganda. Political leaders decided to lead the process of improving sanitation at household level. This followed a water quality assessment in July 2017, which found that 80% of sampled water sources in Kabarole District were contaminated with E-coli, which affected water quality. Many households in Kijura Town Council were found without proper sanitation facilities, meaning that they practiced open defecation. In response, political leaders decided to take the lead in constructing latrines, starting with their own households.
