This quick-scan offers insights into the current practices of social inclusion in integrated water resource management (IWRM) programmes.

In this document seven organisations share experiences on social inclusion in IWRM, operational models, information from contextual frameworks and examples of social exclusion within the different categories of water uses. The results collected are analysed through a limited number of interviews. It does not provide a comprehensive overview, but the research and selection of organisations for this study ensure reliable findings and conclusions that are important to take into account in the practical development of these concepts in future programming.

The results of the scan, together with the 2018 mapping study on socially inclusive WASH programming conducted by the Watershed partners, will be important input for the formulation of policy goals and target setting for social inclusion in development programmes of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
